This trip started in Vuda Marina which is on the western side of Viti Levu. We had stopped in the marina for a few days to re-provision and to collect a DHL package sent to us from New Zealand.

Continue readingThis was a 32 nm passage west from Koro Island to Makogai Island. We departed Koro Island at 06:30 as I was concerned about light winds. However the conditions turned out to make for perfect sailing the whole way.
Continue readingThis passage was 46 nm starting from Leciaseva Point (c. 5 nm south of Savusavu) to Viani Bay, which is at the southeastern corner of Vanua Levu. Viani Bay is inside a reef system and to access the bay you need to enter a pass through the reef.

Sailing out of Whangaroa Harbour on outgoing tide with 1. 6 knots of tidal flow helping us along out into Whangaroa Bay.
Moturua Island (Bay of Islands) to Motukawanui Island (Cavalli Islands)

Today’s passage was north up the coast from BOI to the Cavalli Islands. The conditions were 15 knots SW which put us on a beam reach most of the way.
Opunga Cove, Bay of Islands
We have been aware of the approaching low over the last week. Yesterday (Saturday) was a very calm and sunny day. Solar charging topped off batteries by midday.
