There’s a blow coming!

November 7th, 2022

We are on a mooring at Matauwhi Bay, and while it’s windy now, later this week we have two days of extreme winds forecast. So we have been looking for potential issues and preparing the boat for the blow.

I had noticed previously that the chafe protection on the mooring line is too short to guard the line from chafe against our anchor when Te Tāiko swings in the wind. So this morning I searched the local hardware store for suitable materials to make extra chafe protection from, to see out the blow.

The best I could find was a pair of heavy duty leather gloves, from which I cut two panels. The cut panels were then overlapped on the mooring line and attached with zip ties. So now we will monitor this chafe protection and see how it goes!

Cheers from Skipper Adam
