Preparing for 2022-2023 cruising season

October 22nd, 2022

Bay of Islands Marina (35°18'58.58"S 174° 7'8.46"E WGS84)

Today we stepped-up work preparing to depart from the berth where we have overwintered. Our new Beta Marine 45T was due its 50 hour service which involved an oil change, changing the anode, tightenting the alternater belt and checking hoseclamps. The service was well worthwhile as the oil was coca-cola black and most of the hose clamps got quarter of a turn at least. Other jobs on the list before we push off in a little over a weeks time are:

  • Replacing existing incandesent bow nav lights with an LED version (this is the last incandesent bulb on the boat!)
  • Mounting the new LED stern light on the new arch
  • Checking the diesel tank breather line for moisture
  • Replacing insect screens in rear berth hatches
  • Adding an 80 A terminal fuse block on the new solar install
  • Fitting wheels on the tender transom so we can drag it up the beach!
  • Check our water collection system to ensure we have all the plumbing parts needed to harvest rainwater while out on anchor

Plus normal provisioning tasks.

More to follow on our October depature from Opua.

Cheers from Skipper Adam
