Opua Marina, Bay of Islands, NZ.
Another day of strong winds and heavy rain. The eye of the cyclone passed approximately 80 km east of us during the day resulting in veering winds. The wind veered through south to southwest and blew particularly strong for several hours averaging over 40 knots and gusting to mid 60 knots.
As of 10 pm, the pressure on our saloon barometer when tapped indicated a shift to increasing pressure with a reading of 976 mb. Our digital barometer had previously measured 981 mb at 2 pm.
Tomorrow’s forecast predicts winds to start reducing from 6 pm with a reasonably clam night in store. Thoughts are with those suffering due to the effects of the cyclone.
Cheers from Skipper Adam
