Sailing from Musket Cove to Vuda Marina, Fiji

August 4th, 2024

After sailing from Fiji's eastern islands, we drop anchor at Musket Cove to experience one of Fiji's more popular anchorages. Musket Cove offers a resort type facilities for boaties and combined with it's natural beauty of turquoise water, fringing reefs, and shelter from the trade winds, it is not hard to see why this is a popular spot. We certainly took full advantage of the onshore facilities such as getting our laundry done, using the showers, and disposing of rubbish.

We anchored in about 20 m of water and were quite a way from the shore. It's how we like it but we did get the resort boats zipping past us and kicking up quite a wake which was uncomfortable at times. Musket Cove is a very popular and busy spot. After a few days at Musket Cove, we headed to Vuda Marina to collect our much needed care package.  The entrance into Vuda Marina is narrow and can be rolly entering as the chop/swell makes its way into the channel but once inside, it is very sheltered. We were going to dock in what they call the Eastern Side of the marina, which is the older side and relies on med-style mooring. This was our first time docking like this. It's a circular marina with 2 m docks that are not floating. They literally move boats closer together to fit another boat in. When we first saw the spot we were going into, we didn't know if we would fit, but we did. The staff at Vuda Marina really know their stuff and their help made this process very smooth and easy for us.
